We generally recommend bark nuggets for flat or gently rolling areas. On steep slopes, rounder nuggets can have a tendency to roll downhill during heavy rain or snowmelt. For steep hills, we recommend our Fresh Fines or Medium Red Fir, which knit together to hold the slope.

Will Fresh Fines blow away in the wind?

Like all wood products, nuggets can float if submerged in deep water. However, because they are heavier than fine mulch, they typically stay in place during normal rainfall. They are an excellent choice for areas that don’t see heavy water runoff.

How much bark do I need for my property?

  • Initially, we recommend putting bark down 2-3 inches deep, and then
    adding to that periodically as it breaks down and as you want a fresh look.
  • We measure and install bark by the cubic yard. This is how much 1 cubic
    yard will cover:
    – 324 sq ft at 1 inch deep
    – 162 sq ft at 2 inches deep
    – 108 sq ft at 3 inches deep
